Thankful Thursdays: Life

If you’ve been listening to any news lately, then you’ve certainly heard about the terrible tragedy in the Philippines.  The massive “super typhoon” that smashed through these islands has left thousands of people homeless and seemingly hopeless.  The death toll currently stands at 2,357 but it is rising steadily.  Over 2 million people desperately need food and water.  So many have lost their children, parents, siblings… even pets.  Everyday conveniences and necessities are gone and life has changed forever in an instant.

This sad and chilling reality can serve as a reminder of how precious life is and how very blessed we are.  Today I choose to be THANKFUL.  I am thankful that I am safe and warm and healthy, and so is my family.  And with thankfulness in my heart, I want to remind us all to keep the people of the Philippines in our hearts and prayers!  We have a family friend who lives in that part of the world, and by God’s grace he survived the storm and is alive and safe.  If you can help in any way, don’t hesitate to get involved!!

Philippians 4:6 reminds me, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, with prayer and thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

My prayer journal is now going to fill up with requests to God, that He would comfort and give strength and mercy to the people in this horrible situation… those who have lost relatives, who are injured, and who have lost their homes and belongings.

In this very depressing time for these people, I need to stop and be thankful that I’m alive.  I thank God for waking me up each morning and for giving me breath each moment.  I hope that you, too, are thankful for all that you’ve been blessed with.  Be thankful for the life that you have, but don’t forget those who have recently lost theirs.

What about you?  What are you thankful for?  Any ideas on how to help with the Philippines?
