Saturday Superfoods: Apples

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”

Well, if you know me, you know I LOVE apples!  Next to carrots, apples are my favorite food!  So you can imagine how happy I am to discover that they are actually super foods!

According to “The Beauty Detox Foods” by Certified Nutritionist Kimberly Snyder, apples are actually a beauty food!  This means that when you eat them, they make you more ‘beautiful!’  Greasy, sugary, processed foods may be quick, easy and tasty for the moment, but they are known to cause yucky skin and all sorts of other problems.  Beauty foods promote healthy hair, clear skin and even bright eyes.  Apples cleanse out the colon (thanks to their high content of insoluble fiber.)  This actually keeps your eyes looking bright and clear!

Since apples are extremely high in fiber, they are filling and satisfying, but they still have a nice low calorie count.  Due to their high fiber content, it’s a good idea to enjoy them with a small amount of nut butter.  That’ll keep your tummy happy!

Do you need another reason to love apples?  Well, they may just help prevent cancers of various kinds.  Quick!  Put down your computer (Apple?!)… go grab an apple!
