How I eat- 90/10

Hey guys!! I hope that you’re all doing well and eating properly for ‘No Gain November!’  Today I want to tell you more about the way I prefer to eat.  It is by no means THE BEST way to eat, but it seems to work for me.  I’ve tried many different diets and eating plans and some ways are easier, some are harder.  Some work for a little while but are really hard to stick to.  Others don’t seem to work at all!  I’ve done the South Beach Diet.  I’ve ate like a vegan.  I’ve completely cut out sugar (and then I put a little back.)  I’ve done low carbs and no carbs.  I’ve done low fat and high ‘healthy’ fat.  And for the past seven months I’ve eaten gluten free.  The point is, I now know what works best for me.  While I appreciate a sugar detox to cleanse my body every few months and I have to admit that the South Beach Diet does yield quick weight loss… I find that the best way for me to eat is “90/10.”

I eat healthy 90% of the time and I allow my favorite treats to make up the other 10% of my diet.  This prevents me from overeating or under eating.  I know for me, if I get too strict, I feel deprived and a little depressed… I think it’s much better to enjoy a small amount of ‘treats’ on a regular basis, rather than feeling deprived and unsatisfied.

When I was in the process of losing my weight I ate ice cream every night!  Really, I did!  When I tell people this they’re usually shocked!  How could I commit such a “diet crime” and still LOSE weight?!  Here’s how: PORTION CONTROL!!

I actually find it much easier to limit my portions throughout the day when I know that I can look forward to a very special treat after dinner.  And I can enjoy it guilt free!  I like to scoop out a 1/2 cup serving of my favorite ice cream (look for all-natural if you can or vegan ice cream if you’re dairy free) and place it into a cute little dish!  (The cuter, the better!)  It turns into a feast for the eyes as much as for the taste buds!  I actually enjoy it with a baby spoon (a leftover from my toddler years when ‘baby fat’ was adorable) and I savor every baby-sized bite!  This way I can enjoy my special reward at the end of the day AND still enjoy the special reward of zipping up those favorite skinny jeans without a struggle.  I can satisfy my sweet tooth AND my desire to be fit and healthy… at the same time!

How about you?  How do you like to eat?  Do you enjoy regular treats?
