Saturday Superfood: Blueberries

Oh blueberries, how I love you!  Blueberries are… beautiful!  They’re like little blue pearls that not only satisfy your hunger but, like other superfoods, they have secret, hidden powers!

Did you know that the main source of nutrition in blueberries come from their naturally occuring blue color?  Yep, that’s right.  While packaged foods have to use synthetic coloring and food dyes which wreak havoc on the body.  Blueberries are awesome!  They’re God’s little gift to us!

Anyways, more about the benefits of this superfood.  Did you know that blueberries may help to prevent against Alzheimer’s Disease?  They help keep the brain healthy as we age.  Wow, all that from a simple little fruit!

They’re low in calories and fat and they are high in nutrition.  They burn fat like a furnace, they help prevent against allergies and relieve pain, all while releasing dopamine which makes you feel good, naturally!  Win-Win- Win.

Blueberries are little “blueBABIES” …they may be small, but they sure are strong!

Some ideas for how to eat and enjoy blueberries?  That is, if you don’t just devour them straight out of the carton!… Above is a picture I took of a blueberry parfait!  I had fresh blueberries, chopped banana and blueberry coconut yogurt!  I also topped it with some gluten-free blueberry granola!  Other ways to enjoy blueberries are; over a simple spinach salad with a drizzle of balsamic reduction, mixed with almonds and cashews for a ‘fresh’ trail mix, or even blended into a fresh fruit smoothie!!
