Stop and Smell the Roses!

FullSizeRender 34

“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” -Proverbs 17:22

Sometimes life can get crazy busy. No time for anything. Homework and exams, late nights studying and early mornings at work. And what about a social life? A chat on the phone? Oh no, there’s laundry, groceries, cleaning…

When life gets overwhelming and you’re tired and stressed… When you’re feeling frustrated, impatient or tense… Maybe you feel like life isn’t ‘fun’ or ‘fair’ or ‘friendly’. Then you know it’s time to “stop and smell the roses.” (If you follow me on Instagram, then you know I LOVE flowers!)

Go ahead, treat yourself! Buy a bright bouquet of beautiful flowers, make some coffee, grab your journal and be thankful.  Go for a walk outside and breathe in the warmth of Spring weather. Life’s too short to NOT to appreciate the beauty all around you. So pause. Take some time for yourself.

Maybe for you, “stopping to smell the roses” is simply appreciating all the blessings that you do have (rather than focusing on what you don’t). Maybe it’s sharing a meal with a classmate after a long day at school. Maybe it’s calling up an old friend who is going through a rough time. How about sending a nice little note to Grandma… just because.

So, stop and smell the roses! Take a break and live in the moment! There will always be schoolwork and laundry, dusting and dishes. When life gets really busy, don’t let it overwhelm you. Each day is a gift, so open it up and enjoy it! Simply trying to cheer up someone else’s day will usually cheer up your own!

How about you? How do you treat yourself?!

Your blog is always so uplifting! I love this. 🙂 I bought flowers to perk up my mother-in-law’s table this weekend (we celebrated her birthday and I thought she could use some pretty flowers!) and it reminded me of how they can really brighten up a room! I may just need to get a bouquet for our house. 🙂

It’s so important to stop and enjoy life! I’ve been crazy busy these past few weeks – working late, have so much going on with my jobs, getting ready for company to come into town, etc. – and today I decided to make a pedicure appt for tomorrow. I’m looking forward to getting my feet pampered!

YESSSS! Sometimes it’s really hard to take time for yourself when you’re so busy, but that is really when you need to give yourself a minute to breath and relax! Enjoy your pedi!!

I like to treat myself with a pedicure (either at the salon or at home). It makes me feel good and it makes it makes my feet look pretty!

Love this post, Cailee! You’re so right that there will always be dishes, laundry, work to do/schoolwork…so it really is important to still view each day as a gift and enjoy the small things, even when life feels so busy!

I definitely need to memorize Proverbs 17:22! Have been in a “dry bones” season and there’s not better way to regain a cheerful heart than with Scripture! <3 Thank you for the reminder! This may sound totally silly…but my favorite way to treat myself is a nap! LOL! While my kids are napping there's something so great about not cleaning or cooking or doing…..but just enjoying the blessing of a comfy BED! 😉
