Saturday Superfoods- Almonds!

I love almonds! I guess you could say I’m nuts about them!

Besides being portable, delicious, and fun to eat, almonds are a ‘nutrition powerhouse!’ Loaded with health benefits, these little babies can’t be beat when it comes to nourishing noshing! Almonds help to reduce the risk of heart disease, regulate blood sugar levels, and reduce food cravings. People often think of almonds as high in fat, but that fat may actually help lower the amount of calories that your body absorbs! (Yes, please!)
Almonds are loaded with filling fiber that promotes healthy digestion. They are low in carbs, but high in healthy fats, protein and fiber which make them the perfect choice for diabetics and everyone else!

Raw almonds are naturally free of cholesterol and salt. They’re loaded with calcium, plants-based protein and vitamin E. The vitamin E protects your skin’s collagen which helps us look younger longer!

A whopping 23 almonds only have around 160 filling calories, so a small handful of almonds can ‘fill ya up’ with out filling out your jeans! Considering how many vitamins and minerals are found naturally in these little nuts, why wouldn’t everyone enjoy these treats on their journey towards an all-around healthier lifestyle!

Here’s a little warning from my mum: She worries about the ‘crunch factor’. They can be very hard, so take care when biting down, that you don’t crack a tooth! (YOU know how mothers can be!)

I drink almond milk daily, toss sliced almonds on my salad, stir raw almond butter into my oatmeal and smear it on my gluten free crackers. I use almond flour for baking, munch on dry roasted almonds for a snack, and enjoy almonds dipped in dark chocolate for a delicious, delightful, decadent dessert.

What about you? Are you ‘nuts’ about almonds like me??  What are your favorite ways to enjoy them?
