Happy 2019! (How did THAT happen?)

Have you made any New Year’s Resolutions this year? If you know me, you know I LOVE new beginnings and fresh starts. But I’m not into quick fixes, diet fads or extremes. No thanks. I prefer to take baby steps towards my goals. While healthy eating has been a huge part of my life for years, I’m always on the hunt for little hints and strategies that could improve my overall health. I always love it when I discover something that makes things better than they were before. It’s especially helpful when dealing with other ‘interesting’ health issues.

I have psoriasis. Psoriasis is a long-lasting autoimmune disease characterized by patches of abnormal dry, itchy skin. It is constantly changing and often gets worse in the winter. While psoriasis cannot be cured, it can be managed. I practice yoga 4 times per week for my joints and I eat a low inflammatory diet. I use lots of creamy ointments and natural moisturizers and I try to manage my stress as much as possible.

Recently, I’ve decided to try supplements to help with my psoriasis. In fact, at Christmas Eve dinner I was talking with my cousin (a real fitness buff) about fish oil. He’s been taking fish oil daily for the past 3 years and he swears that it aids in recovery and muscle growth. Since I do a lot of yoga, it’s probably about time I tried fish oil. I’ve also heard that the fatty acids found in fish oil help with inflammation and can reduce scaly psoriasis flare-ups. But where do I begin? Shopping for high quality supplements can be tricky!

Cue Omega 3 Innovations. Their fish oil is top quality. Omega Cure is harvested from wild cod caught off the coast of Norway. (I just so happen to be half Norwegian.) Their individual vials are the perfect size! Each vial can be taken with a meal or mixed into a recipe- like a smoothie, gluten free muffins, oats, etc. I know what you’re thinking, “Does it taste like fish??” Honestly, NO. It’s flavored to prevent that yucky fishy taste and that makes such a difference.

The advantages of supplementing with fish oil are seemingly endless! I was just reading an article on Healthline discussing the many potential benefits. Here are just a few. For starters, fish oil can help with various skin disorders (including Psoriasis). It may help reduce inflammation within the body (which is important for autoimmune health). It also promotes heart health. My dad just started supplementing with it because of some heart issues he’s had. Additionally, fish oil can help aid in brain health (Alzheimer’s and ADHD) and some studies have shown that it may also help with depression. Talk about a powerful supplement!

When it comes to dosing, it’s important to talk to your doctor. What I love about Omega Cure is that the fish oil comes in individual doses. If it’s the right dose for you, simply take the whole thing at one time! If you need more or less, you can easily measure out a different portion. It’s so simple!

I’m only at the beginning of my ‘Fish Oil Journey’ but I’m looking forward to some great results. Do you supplement with fish oil? Have you noticed some positive changes? What are some simple ways you’re hoping to improve your health in 2019??
